Cognos Data Size vs. Vertica Table Column Data Type Size

Hi, We have a column defined in a Vertica table as numeric(12, 5). In this column we can store numbers as large as 9999999.99999. When we query the column in Cognos using the "auto sum" feature we get an error (see attachment). Cognos is apparently sizing the field to display the sum based the table...

This error indicates that the user executing the query has a memory cap setting that is insufficient for this query. The query will need about 2.5GB and the user has a max memory cap of 1GB. I heard Vertica 5.1.0 will be released in early spring. Although its labeled as a minor upgrade, it will include a new GUI. We've been using Toad for Data Analysts. The new GUI is supposed to be a graphical version of the dbadmin tools.
