Sample queries with optimization objectives in DBD

When running a database designer with different optimization objectives (balanced query/load, query performance or load performance), how are the sample queries weighed? If there are more load sample queries, will the database designer favor the load performance and vise versa? Does the DBD consider load/insert statements when examining sample queries?
