query_profiles changed in 6.1 ?

Post by zvika » Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:59 am

Hi ,

In version 5.1 if trace was off query_profiles table showed only the active queries (same for execution_engine_profiles).
Now I see that in version 6.1 query_profiles & execution_engine_profiles are getting populate and has inactive queries even when trace is disabled .

Is this true or I missed something here ?

This is true. Many of the system tables in 6.x get their data from Data Collector (dc_) tables. The tables are actually views. You can see how they are defined in the vs_system_views table. The dc tables get populated regardless of the state of profiling; dc_execution_engine_profiles table captures by default profiling data for any query that executes for longer than 1s. This is actually pretty handy - to be able to review detailed profiling data regardless of whether or not you had turned on profiling.

Thanks Sharon,

I thought it got to do with the DC tables ... :-)
