OLAP in Vertica: MDX vs. SQL OLAP extensions

Post by ps0604 » Tue Jan 31, 2012 4:32 am

From what I read on the website it seems that Vertica doesn't support MDX; is it part of the roadmap? Is SQL+OLAP Vertica's recommendation to deploy OLAP client apps? I believe I read Vertica supports SQL:2008. Thanks.

Vertica does not support MDX queries, however, it can be integrated with Mondrian (http://mondrian.pentaho.com/) or Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) which do support MDX.

FYI - I just heard that MDX support is in the Vertica pipeline (as a feature request); but there is no set release date.

Thanks. One of the advantages of Mondrian is that it caches aggregates to improve query performance. If I use SQL+OLAP extensions to query in Vertica, does it have a similar feature? thanks
