HI!

Vertica doesn't run on Windows.
If you want a virtual image - so Vertica already provides a virtual appliance (look in downloads).

Hey rajesh.pu,

Are you trying to install Vertica on a Linux virtual machine running in vmware on Windows 7? That works, I've done it many times. But if like sKwa said, you can not run Vertica in Windows!

Hello Rajesh,

First, you will need a VMware player or VMware workstation to run the OVF file or the .vmdk file ( other option while downloading)

1. Install VMware player ( free version ) or VMware Workstation ( paid version ) on your Windows box
2. For OVF file follow http://pubs.vmware.com/workstation-9/in ... 62F7A.html
3. For .vmdk file from Vertica forllow http://aztcs.org/meeting_notes/winhards ... indows.pdf

Note - The above pdf for .vmdk file is for Windows guest operating system, in your case it can be CentOS Tweak the configuration parameters according to your system configurations.

Hope this helps.. :)

I think if you download the “VMware Server 2.0 and Workstation 7.0 (vmdk) “ file from Community edition from http://my.vertica.com/, you get 2 files:
HP Vertica Analytic Database Server.vmdk
HP Vertica Analytic Database Server.vmx

The .vmx file itself is a configuration file that configures the virtual machine for HP Vertica Analytic Database Server. Next is to run the .vmdk file.
